Hi,
My name is Sian, I have been a ballerina for ten years. I started when I was 4, when every girl dreams of being a ballerina. My mother forced me to attend classes even though I was a little tomboy back then. I dreamed of being a doctor instead of a ballerina.
After a few years I was introduced to Contemporary dance. I loved it and wanted to give up ballet for it. I asked the director of my dance school and she said I had to be 16 to do contemporary exclusively. So I continued with ballet for a few more years.
This year (2010) I truly realised my passion for ballet. I was improving rapidly so I was put en pointe. This opened up a world of possibilities for me when it came to casting. All the good parts are on pointe, so I had a chance.
I auditioned for the Australian Ballet School in July, they didn't accept me but it lit a fire inside me. I am going to audition for 6 more schools next year. I want to be a ballet dancer even if it means I have to move out of Canberra. I want to be a full time dancer at Tanya Pearsons, ABS or Victorian College of the Arts.
I'm so glad I kept doing ballet. I still do contemporary but I don't love it nearly as much. I dance 35 hours a week and I got solos in both our performances this year. Dawn in Coppelia and Melanie in A Moment Of Choice.
See you next post, if anyone is reading.
Sian
